The Lone Butte Fire Department was originally formed in 1981, due to the public being concerned about the fire protection in the area.
Its original name consisted of all the lakes in its protection area, (Horse Lake, Irish Lake, Taylor Lake, Fawn Lake) but was later changed due to the fact that the names would not fit onto the truck door!

The Lone Butte hall now survives as the only log fire hall in B.C. A great portion of the construction was done by members who were already dedicating time to the department. The departments first fire truck can be seen in the surrounding pictures.
The first fire chief of the LBFD was Pat Connel, followed by Keith Ollenberger, Dave Doubek, Don Tomlinson, and finally Jaret Scott. Mike Collinge is the current chief and has filled the position since 2004.
